NBA superstar Luka Doncic splits with fiancée, embroiled in child custody dispute

The beautiful relationship between Doncic and Anamaria Goltes is nearly irreparable.

The star of the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic, is facing personal turmoil as reports indicate he has separated from his longtime fiancée Anamaria Goltes. The two are now entering a legal process concerning custody rights for their two daughters.

Doncic and Goltes got engaged in 2023 after many years together. The couple knew each other since childhood in Slovenia and officially started dating in 2016. During their relationship, they had two daughters. Their firstborn, Gabriela, was born in 2023 in the US while Doncic was still playing for the Dallas Mavericks. Their second daughter, Olivia, was born last December.

Speaking to ESPN, Doncic said ending the engagement was a difficult but necessary choice.

"I love my daughters more than anything. I tried everything to have them stay with me in the US throughout the season, but it wasn't possible. Therefore, I had to make the decision to end the engagement.", the Slovenian star shared. He also emphasized that all his actions are aimed at the well-being and future of his children.

According to sources, tensions between Doncic and Goltes escalated around the time Olivia was born. At that point, Doncic returned to Slovenia to welcome their second child, causing him to miss two games before rejoining the Lakers for the match against the Philadelphia 76ers on December 7.

During this return trip, a dispute reportedly occurred between Doncic and Goltes when the NBA star expressed his wish to bring daughter Gabriela to live with him in Los Angeles. According to ESPN reports, the argument escalated to a point where police intervention was required. "Luka Magic" then left and flew back to the US that same day.

Since that time, Doncic reportedly has not seen Goltes or his two daughters again. Meanwhile, the entertainment news site TMZ reported that Goltes has filed for child support in California. The lawsuit mentions only child support and legal fees, and does not include a request for formal custody rights.

According to ESPN, Doncic reportedly had no knowledge of this lawsuit until the news appeared in the media. The case is attracting significant public attention as it involves one of the NBA's most prominent stars.
