As of May 28th Beijing time, the Oklahoma City Thunder hold the title of reigning NBA champions, needing only five more victories to complete a consecutive championship run. Yet reports suggest they are determined to acquire Boozer or Wilson during the 2026 NBA Draft.

Noted NBA insider Jake Fischer commented today on rumors that the Los Angeles Clippers might trade the No. 5 pick: “Other teams around the league view the Thunder as the most likely candidate to move up in the draft.” One Eastern Conference executive remarked, “They could easily package the No. 12 and No. 17 picks, and even throw in future selections, to go after Boozer or Wilson—why not?”
The Thunder currently hold two first-round picks in this draft and possess multiple future selections to work with.
Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, along with young talents like Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, the team has a wide championship window and can confidently pursue upgrades to contend. With both teams now facing off in the Western Conference Finals, the Thunder know they will be competing against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs for years to come. Therefore, adding more young, impactful players to bolster frontcourt depth is a logical move.

Boozer and Wilson are precisely the ideal reinforcements for the Thunder.
After just one season at Duke, Boozer swept major individual honors including AP Player of the Year, the Naismith Award, and the Wooden Award. Wilson, after a single season at North Carolina, earned Second Team All-America and First Team All-ACC honors, showing tremendous potential.
The biggest uncertainty remains whether these two prospects will be available at the No. 5 spot. In the latest mock draft by Bleacher Report's Wasserman, Boozer is projected to be selected at No. 3 and Wilson at No. 4.
Even though the Thunder's immediate priority is to win the championship and achieve a repeat, they remain a formidable trade contender in this draft.
