The Kings are negotiating a trade for Domantas Sabonis with the Hornets, asking for two first-round picks, but a deal is unlikely before the draft.

On June 10, per prominent journalist Sam Amick, league sources indicate that the Kings and Hornets have recently discussed interior player Domantas Sabonis. No deal is set, and it is unlikely to be reached before the June 24 draft.

The 30-year-old three-time All-Star has attracted attention from the Hornets. The Kings hope to acquire two first-round picks (Nos. 14 and 18) from Charlotte, but the Hornets prefer to keep their picks and plan to revisit negotiations later this summer. Sabonis has two years remaining on his contract, with a salary of $45.4 million next season and $48.6 million in 2027-28.

During the 2025-26 regular season, Domantas Sabonis was plagued by injuries, appearing in only 19 games and averaging 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 54.3% from the field. He still maintained efficient interior finishing, solid rebounding, post positioning, and pick-and-roll ability. When healthy, he routinely posted double-doubles of 20+ points and 10+ rebounds, led the league in rebounding for multiple seasons, and provided a high floor on both ends of the floor.

The Hornets urgently need to add a proven, mature interior player to upgrade their frontcourt height, rebounding defense, and interior playmaking. As a result, they have strong interest in Sabonis, who fits their system and brings ample experience. However, they are reluctant to give up their draft assets, so further negotiations between the two sides are expected.
