LeBron James and Kevin Love are rumored to be reuniting with the Los Angeles Lakers! The former Cleveland teammates, who won a championship together, are currently vacationing in Europe.

According to ESPN’s Chris Spears, who spoke on a program today (June 18), there is a possibility that LeBron James and Kevin Love, old teammates from Cleveland, will play together again next season for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Spears stated, “It’s highly likely LeBron stays with the Lakers, and Love also has a strong chance of signing with the purple and gold. I think these two could reunite in L.A.”

Both James and Love are currently under contracts that expire on June 30, making them unrestricted free agents at that time.

Just before this news broke, Love and James recently met up in London to commemorate the tenth anniversary of their 2016 NBA championship win with the Cavaliers.

Love will turn 38 this September. Last season, he played for the Utah Jazz, carrying a $4.15 million cap hit.

The Jazz finished with a disappointing 22–60 record last season, and Love was often rested on back-to-backs. However, in the 37 games he played, he averaged 6.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

In the offseason, Jaxson Hayes is expected to leave as a free agent. If the Lakers urgently need an experienced big man to fill the void, Love could be a prime target for them to evaluate.

For the Lakers, retaining James comes at a higher payroll cost. Last season, LeBron exercised his $52.6 million player option and played out his age-42 campaign.

James appeared in 60 regular-season games last year, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists, earning his 20th consecutive All-Star selection.

NBA insider Marc Stein recently reported that the league widely expects the Lakers to re-sign guard Austin Reaves this offseason. Reaves’ new contract is projected to be worth around $40 million annually, which would significantly limit the Lakers’ salary cap flexibility and affect their ability to extend James. Meanwhile, multiple players like Hayes and Rui Hachimura may enter free agency and leave, requiring the Lakers to fill out their roster.

ESPN insider Brian Windhorst said that other teams around the league anticipate LeBron James will take a pay cut in order to remain with the Lakers.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka indicated that the team’s future will be built around Luka Dončić. However, if they sign James and Love to short-term deals, the Lakers could still restructure their lineup around Dončić next season.

When the new season tips off this fall, the Lakers’ roster might feature a double reunion: James could play alongside his son Bronny, and also reunite with his former Cavaliers teammate Kevin Love.
