Today, ESPN reporter Marc J. Spears discussed James's future on a program, stating: "Based on the information I have, LeBron is very likely to return to the Lakers, and Kevin Love is also very likely to join the Lakers."

Love and James were teammates on the Cavaliers for four years, together they defeated the Warriors in 2016 to win the championship, and they built a strong friendship. Love will turn 38 this September. In the 2025-26 season, he played for the Jazz, appearing in 37 games with 5 starts, averaging 16.6 minutes, 6.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 39.7% from the field, 37.3% from three, and 84.1% from the free-throw line.
From a statistical perspective, Love can be considered a solid role player. His salary last season was $4.14 million, and now as a free agent, he is waiting for teams to sign him. It would be a good option for the Lakers to sign him with a veteran minimum contract, allowing him to reunite with James.

Recently, Love has been traveling in Europe with James and a bunch of former Cavaliers teammates, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Cavaliers' 2016 championship.

JR Smith, Thompson, Frye, and Jefferson were also present. They even took a helicopter ride together.

Some fans commented on social media, asking why Irving wasn't invited.
JR Smith stated that Irving was invited to the gathering but was completely unreachable and absent: "He was the only one who didn't come. We invited him, but he just went off the grid, so stop making a big deal out of it."

Let's get back to the Lakers.
NBA reporter Evan Sidery reported today: The Lakers are actively engaged in contract extension negotiations with LeBron James, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura. The Lakers have made extending these three players a top priority before free agency begins.
NBA reporter Michael Scotto reported that the Nets have listed Reaves as a target. They have ample salary cap space and are the team best positioned to offer Reaves a max contract directly in free agency.
There is a general consensus within the league that if the Lakers offer Reaves a near-max or full max contract, he will stay with the Lakers. If the Lakers present a lowball offer that lacks sincerity, Reaves will consider other teams, and a sign-and-trade scenario could then emerge.

Warriors beat reporter Anthony Slater reported that if James's contract extension talks with the Lakers break down, the Warriors would be willing to extend an olive branch to James at that time.
However, the Warriors are not very hopeful about acquiring James. Sources say that all the intelligence gathered by the Warriors' front office indicates that James will most likely return to the Lakers, so the Warriors are also operating this offseason based on that assessment.
The reporter revealed that the Warriors' offer for James would be a full mid-level exception contract worth $15.1 million. Meanwhile, James's salary for the just-concluded 2025-26 season was $52.63 million. The difference between the two is nearly $38 million.

Former NBA player Nick Young thinks James should go to the Warriors. He said on a TV program: "LeBron, it's time to leave,I think his time in Los Angeles is over. He's done everything he could.Go play with Curry; the league needs this. I don't think they can win a championship there, but he definitely needs to leave Los Angeles."
"Here he takes most of the blame but gets little credit, especially now that it's Luka's team. It's time to go after another championship. You can go anywhere. Every team will want you, after all, you're LeBron. Go get a ring."
If it's a choice between the Warriors and the Lakers, then it's better to stay with the Lakers.
