New developments in the Giannis trade: Pistons could become third party, acquire Herro from Heat to assist Cunningham

On June 19 Beijing time, per famous reporter Stein, the Detroit Pistons are poised to act as the third party in a blockbuster trade that would send Giannis to the Heat. Should the transaction be completed, Tyler Herro might end up in Detroit. This prospective deal ranks among the biggest offseason maneuvers, and the Pistons could be a key facilitator.

The Pistons have made significant progress this season, and the team is actively looking to strengthen its roster. The primary goal is to add outside shooting and offensive scoring options to complement Cunningham.

Herro fits the Pistons' recruitment needs perfectly. The former Sixth Man of the Year is a top-tier scoring guard in the league. If he joins, he would immediately provide the Pistons with a consistent offensive weapon. However, Herro is not the only target on Detroit's radar.

Stein revealed that the Pistons are also interested in several guards and wing players around the league, including Mavericks star Kyrie Irving and Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III, though acquiring either of those two would be extremely difficult. Detroit is also keeping an eye on other available players: Coby White, Isaiah Joe, and Zach LaVine.

LaVine's trade prospects are particularly noteworthy. The veteran's contract is in its final year, with a $49 million player option that must be exercised by June 29. This contract makes him a hot topic in the offseason trade market.

Numerous rumors around the league currently center on Giannis and the Bucks' future direction. The Bucks underperformed all season, falling far short of expectations. They finished with a disappointing 32-50 record, missing the play-in tournament and the playoffs. This poor performance has led the entire league to anticipate a major roster overhaul in Milwaukee.

Giannis' individual statistics remain stellar: averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game with a shooting percentage of 62.4%, though he only played 36 regular-season games due to injury. Currently, the Heat remain his top suitor, but multiple reporters have previously indicated that Miami's assets are not sufficiently appealing to the Bucks. It is expected that a Giannis trade will involve multiple teams.
