Trae Young has signed a four-year, approximately $212 million extension with the Wizards, broken down as follows:
2026-27 season, $49.5 million;
2027-28 season, $51.9 million;
2028-29 season, $54.5 million;
2029-30 season, $56.9 million (player option).

Once news of Young's extension with the Wizards came out, the discussion regarding the 2026 No. 1 pick was settled.
Sure enough, it was AJ Dybantsa who landed in Washington. Born on January 29, 2007, he is a 6'9" (2.06m) wing with a 7'1" (2.16m) wingspan from Brigham Young University. In his freshman NCAA season, he averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 51%, 33.1%, and 77.4%.

As for Dybantsa's biggest rival, Darin Peterson, he took his talents to the Jazz as the No. 2 pick. Born on January 17, 2007, he is a 6'5" (1.94m) combo guard with a 6'10" (2.08m) wingspan from the University of Kansas. In his freshman NCAA season, he averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 43.8%, 38.2%, and 82.6%.

The No. 3 pick unsurprisingly went to Cameron Boozer, who joined the Grizzlies. Born on July 18, 2007, he is a 6'9" (2.04m) forward with a 7'1" (2.17m) wingspan from Duke University. In his freshman NCAA season, he averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 55.6%, 39.1%, and 78.9%. His father is former NBA All-Star and Guangdong Southern Tigers legend Carlos Boozer.

Back to the Wizards, the trio of Trae Young, AJ, and Anthony Davis could very well lead the team to become a dark horse in the East, making a playoff push for the 2026-27 season a realistic goal, and giving the reigning champion Knicks a tough challenge.

By the way, before the draft, AJ declared that if he were selected No. 1 by the Wizards, Trae Young would have to give up his No. 3 jersey... As the veteran, Trae Young responded: "The script is written. We'll talk about the jersey number later."

The Mayor of New York is truly magnanimous, not bothering to argue with a younger player.

Finally, welcome again to a new generation of rookies entering the NBA. Perhaps this marks the beginning of a new era.
