Dream Chaser Declines $27.7M Option! Warriors Aim for Big Four: Trade for Davis + Pursue LeBron

On June 29, Beijing time, per Shams' report citing ESPN insiders, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has opted out of his $27.7 million player option, entering free agency. This maneuver provides the Warriors with financial room to either chase LeBron James on the open market or trade for Anthony Davis, assembling a four-star lineup.

Earlier, reporter O'Connor noted that the Warriors plan to first acquire Wizards big man Anthony Davis through a trade, then sign Lakers free agent forward LeBron James.

To secure Davis in a trade, the core asset must be Butler. Butler has only one year left on his contract at $57 million annually and is currently recovering from a torn ACL. Additionally, the Warriors must offer draft assets: they hold two future first-round picks and four first-round pick swaps, which can be used to build a trade package.

The Warriors hope that after bringing in Davis, they can successfully recruit James from Los Angeles to the Bay Area when free agency opens on July 1. The pitch is straightforward: reunite with former teammate Davis, team up with Curry and Green, play under Coach Kerr, and chase another championship alongside legends.

Davis will become eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum contract extension on August 7. If he is traded, the clock on his extension eligibility resets. According to the CBA, Davis cannot sign the full max deal until six months after the trade becomes official.

This recruitment plan may only remain a front-office fantasy, but it is also possible that the Warriors assemble the oldest super-team in NBA history. LeBron, Davis, Curry, and Green—under Kerr's guidance—could finish their respective careers together and make one more push for a championship.
