On March 14, Beijing time, according to Shams of the Register, ESPN sources revealed that Spurs star Fox will undergo surgery next Tuesday local time to repair the tendon injury of the little finger of his left hand, which will result in his reimbursement this season. Fox suffered a tendon injury during training camp last October and has played through the season. For the Spurs and Fox, the surgery was chosen to speed up the healing process and allow him to regain integration with the roster in the offseason.
Medical expert Jeffries said it was a poor end to the season for the Spurs. However, with tendon repair surgery, Fox will be out of action for three months and is expected to return to the game at the start of next season.
At the NBA trade deadline, Fox was traded from the Kings to the Spurs, eventually playing 17 games for the Spurs. His best performance for the Spurs came in the Spurs' 126-116 win over the Mavericks in their last game, where he finished with 32 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and one steal.
In a total of 62 games for the Spurs and Kings, Fox averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game. On Nov. 16 of last year, he scored 60 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which was not only the only 60-point game of the season, but also set a franchise record for the Kings to score points in a single game.
Fox and Los Angeles Lakers star Doncic are the only two players in the past six seasons who have averaged 20 points, five assists and one steal per game in each season, according to ESPN statistics.
The Spurs (27-37) have also lost star center Wembanyama and head coach Popovich for the remainder of the season. Wembanyama was reimbursed for the season in February due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. Popovich suffered a mild stroke in November and hasn't coached since.
