On June 12, Beijing time, according to Shams, the New York Knicks have applied to talk with Atlanta Hawks head coach Quinn Snyder, but the other party has firmly refused. Counting the Hawks, the Knicks have been denied a meeting with their head coach by four teams, the other three being the Mavericks, Rockets and Timberwolves.
The 58-year-old has been coaching the Hawks for more than two years, scoring 86-99 in 185 regular-season games and a 46.5 percent winning rate, and six playoff games with two wins and a 33.3 percent winning rate. The Hawks are 40-42 this season and miss out on the playoffs.
It was previously reported that the Mavericks explicitly rejected the Knicks' request to talk to Jason Kidd. Sources confirmed that Kidd, like Rockets coach Udoka and Timberwolves coach Finch, both declined requests for interview permission in New York.
Udoka and Finch have both led their respective teams to great results this season: the Rockets ended a four-year playoff drought in second place in the West, and the Timberwolves reached the division finals for the second year in a row.
The Knicks began their search for a new coach after last week's surprise firing of Thibodeau, who led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. Jay Wright, who has coached three active Knicks starters at Villanova University, has reportedly informed New York last week that he has no intention of accepting the position.
