Magic officially announced that the 7-for-1 deal is complete! Bain himself posted two expressions, and the president called him a top defender

On June 16, Beijing time, the Magic officially announced that the 7-for-1 deal for Bane had been officially completed, and posted a poster to welcome Bane to join the team. Official social media posted the details of the trade with the caption: "We acquired guard/forward Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies, sending guard Cole Anthony, Pope and multiple future first-round picks. ”

The draft assets sent by the Magic include four unprotected first-round picks and one lightly protected first-round swap right, specifically this year's first-round pick No. 16, the 2026 first-round pick (from the Suns/Wizards, including swap rights), the 2028 first-rounder, the 2030 first-round pick, and the 2029 first-round swap right (top-two pick protected).

"We are thrilled to welcome Desmond [Bane] to the Orlando Magic family," said Weltman, president of Magic Basketball Operations. We're expecting his projection, basketball IQ and all-around skills to help the team take it to the next level." His work ethic is widely praised in the league and we believe he blends seamlessly with his current players, both on and off the field. ”

Bain himself also updated social media and posted two expressions: one is the sun, and the other is a smiling face wearing sunglasses.

The Magic think Bane fits perfectly with the lineup. The 26-year-old shooting guard has averaged more than 19 points per game over the past three seasons and is lethal from beyond the three-point line, shooting 41.0 percent from three-point range in his career. This is undoubtedly a relief for the Magic team, which has a three-point shooting percentage of the bottom 31.8% in the league in the 2024-25 season.

Bane also added another ball-carrying point to the Magic. He often took on ball-handling duties (22.9 per game) during his time with the Grizzlies to take the pressure off All-Star guard Morant. That's exactly what the Magic need — they don't want to completely strip playmakers Banchero and Wagner Jr. of possession that would undermine their offensive efficiency.

Compared to the lineup when they lost to the Celtics in the first round of the 2025 playoffs, the Magic's new starting backcourt will be more offensive and dynamic. In addition, the team is looking forward to the return of defender Suggs. Suggs ended the season early in January with a left knee injury and is now making a steady recovery.

Bane will not only be able to form a backcourt partner with Suggs who is both defensive and pressing, but will also provide another high-level scoring creator. Over the past two seasons, he's scored 30+ points 17 times, including a career-high 49 points against the Pistons on Dec. 6, 2023. He's also been extremely efficient: Bane is averaging 19.2 points per game in 69 regular-season games this season, shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 39.2 percent from three-point range and 89.4 percent from the free throw line, the only qualified player in the league to meet all of these criteria.

The deal not only paves the way for the Magic next season, but also has an eye on the future. For the 2025-26 season, Orlando expects five players in the starting lineup (Suggs, Bane, Wagner Jr., Banchero, Wendell Carter) to be between the ages of 22 and 26. It's also a testament to the huge commitment from Magic boss DeVos – with Bane's salary, Suggs/Wagner Jr./Carter and others coming into effect, and Banchero imminent contract extensions, the starting lineup will be burdened with high salary costs.

However, given the potential of this squad on the pitch, such an investment is likely to be worth it.
