TFT Season 18: Bounty Hunter Draven - Is he truly powerful or just a "luck-based" champion?

Draven is one of the most special 5-cost champions in TFT Season 18, lacking a normal Trait. Instead, he employs the Bounty Hunter system with unique mission mechanics. Properly used, this champion not only deals large amounts of damage but can also secure enough resources to transform the entire late-game board.

Draven deals damage through the Bleed effect

Draven's passive ability causes his attacks to target a random enemy in range and apply a stack of Bleed, dealing physical damage over 12 seconds. Each attack also has a 12% chance to deal an additional 50% physical damage and apply two more Bleed stacks.

When activating his skill, Draven throws two massive axes toward the target with the highest number of Bleed stacks. The axes deal damage to enemies in their path, while also consuming all Bleed stacks to instantly trigger the remaining damage.

This mechanic makes Draven especially dangerous if he has enough attack speed and physical damage, because the longer he attacks, the greater the accumulated Bleed damage.

Bounty Hunter turns each round into a mission

What makes Draven unique lies in the Bounty Hunter system. When placing this champion on the board, the player is offered one of several random missions to complete.

The harder the mission, the more attractive the potential rewards. Therefore, players need to consider their items before choosing. If Draven has high attack speed or fast skill casting, missions that require using abilities will be more suitable. Conversely, a pure damage item build can target missions related to the amount of damage dealt.

Draven is best suited for 5-cost compositions

Draven's limitation is that he does not have a Trait to directly connect to a fixed composition. This makes it difficult for him to become a must-have unit in trait/synergy-focused builds.

On the flip side, this very feature makes Draven extremely suitable for flexible 5-cost compositions. The resources obtained from missions can help players continue leveling up, rolling for expensive champions, or completing their late-game board.

Therefore, Bounty Hunter Draven is not a 5-cost champion that you can just buy and be strong. His true value depends on the ability to choose missions, items, and the state of the board. But if he appears at the right time, he can absolutely be a "money printing machine" that helps a player go from an average composition straight to Top 1.
