Marksmen with early game combat power! Sun Shangxiang is counterintuitive, while Luban No.7 is undisputed.

Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.

In Honor of Kings, the marksman role usually needs to scale into the late game, so they are generally weak early on. However, there are a few marksman heroes who actually have decent combat power by level 4, and may not even need to complete their first item to be effective. So which heroes are these?

Sun Shangxiang

Many players consider Sun Shangxiang a late-game hero, since with full items her damage is explosive, sometimes even capable of instantly eliminating squishy targets, and once critical hits stack up, she's unstoppable. But in reality, this hero is also strong in the early game, which might be counterintuitive, but it's true.

After rolling with her skill, she gets an enhanced basic attack with decent damage. Her second skill acts as a powerful buff, granting armor penetration when it hits, making her attacks hit harder. If she gets lucky with a critical strike, the damage is even higher. So most marksmen find it hard to lane against Sun Shangxiang; she's really difficult to suppress. However, this only applies to squishy targets; against tanky supports, the effect is not as good.

Gongsun Li

Gongsun Li is a well-known early-game hero. In the late game, she is very fragile and often gets taken out by random AOE damage. But early on, she is quite good. First, her damage is not low; three basic attacks trigger an explosive mark with considerable damage. Combined with her first and second skills, she can even turn the mark into AOE damage. If she brings the "Frenzy" summoner spell, her damage can be boosted even further.

Additionally, another key reason why Gongsun Li is strong early is that her second skill can block certain projectiles, such as Hou Yi's ultimate, Li Yuanfang's ultimate, etc. Since many marksman skills are projectiles, they are perfectly countered by Gongsun Li. Keep in mind that these skills have long cooldowns early on; if they are blocked, the enemy faces a long period of vulnerability, which is exactly when Gongsun Li is at her strongest.

Luban No.7

No one should disagree with this hero. Among current marksmen, Luban No.7 is probably the strongest in the early game. His damage core comes from the passive barrage effect, which deals percentage-based damage. It works well against tanky supports and can shred health very quickly.

The conditions for Luban to trigger his barrage are extremely easy. Besides triggering it after three basic attacks, using any skill also triggers it. If the support provides a bit of crowd control, allowing Luban to perfectly land his skills and barrage, he can easily secure a kill. There's no need for additional basic attacks because the skills have very short recovery when chained with the passive barrage, resulting in explosive short-term damage.

Besides these, heroes like Goya and Meng Ya are also decent. However, the marksman role is ultimately weak in the early game. Even these early-strong heroes have no countermeasures against some mid-laners and junglers. It's common to see them being dived under tower and killed frequently. Relatively speaking, being strong in the late game is still more important, especially in low elo where the ability to close out games is weak, and matches often drag into the late stage.
