In the opening match of Group C at the 2025 Valorant Global Championship, NRG beat EDG 2-0 to claim their first win.
Map One: Abyssal Cavern
Defending team NRG: Yomi, Yelu, Poseidon, Hawk, Wisp
Attacking team EDG: Hawk, Neon, Yelu, Yomi, Sage
In the first half, Smoggy led with two triple kills early on, pushing the team to a three-round streak. NRG called their first timeout early and gained momentum to score, but then Kang Kang’s sniper punished them in mid lane, securing the first kills in two consecutive rounds there. In round 7, NRG’s efficient rotation back to site B helped them secure their second point. Smoggy and Qiuqiu both performed strongly in the first half, but EDG dominated offensively, leading 10-2 at halftime.
In the pistol round of the second half, Smoggy again won the clutch, but NRG quickly turned the tide, scoring five consecutive rounds. In round 19, Kang Kang’s Mingju held site A with a triple kill. NRG accelerated the push and planted the spike but was stopped by EDG’s defense. Though EDG reached match point, NRG kept closing the gap. After EDG’s second timeout in round 24, Kang Kang eliminated Ethan mid, and despite EDG’s five-player defense, NRG delayed their push, forcing overtime.
In overtime, Jieni7 held firm on site B, scoring a triple kill to win the attacking round, but then NRG scored on defense. NRG’s double smokes suppressed EDG effectively, stalling their advances. By the fourth round of overtime, NRG secured the win on map one.
Map Two: Saltsea Mines
Defending team NRG: K/O, Phantom, Yomi, Hawk, Viper
Attacking team EDG: Black Dream, Neon, Yelu, Yomi, Viper
Though EDG won the pistol round in the first half, their mistakes exposed vulnerabilities. After NRG won the bonus round and went on a five-round streak, EDG finally got their third point in round 8 with a mid push. EDG then scored three consecutive rounds. NRG’s timeout in round 11 paid off with a successful hold on site A. EDG took site B in round 12, ending the half tied 6-6.
In the second half, NRG won the pistol round, but EDG held site A in the bonus round. In round 16, EDG defended mid and controlled the map, with Skuba nearly turning the game around by winning three rounds in a row. EDG extended their lead by three more rounds. In round 18, NRG activated Viper’s ultimate on site B; K/O’s ability revealed EDG’s positions, helping NRG win the rifle round. NRG then went on a four-round streak to reach match point. EDG fought back with two rounds; in round 24, Nobody boldly pushed mid for the first kill. EDG held site A, but NRG rotated to B, and Ethan clinched the clutch to secure NRG’s victory on map two.
