Hello to all LPL viewers and League of Legends summoners, this is World of Games.
League of Legends has been around for 16 years, and its popularity has inevitably dropped. Not long ago, multiple streamers suggested that Riot would introduce a Classic Server for LoL, and today this news has been officially verified.

Additionally, overseas leaks have revealed that players will be able to temporarily travel back to Season 3.
Classic Server Information Released, Featuring Season 3 Gameplay
According to overseas sources, the LoL Classic Server will adopt Season 3's gameplay. All old items, runes, and masteries will return, directly implementing the Season 3 version. This allows players to experience the original versions of various champions, outdated skill sets, and models, primarily following a nostalgic route.

The Classic Server will have its own battle pass and shop, along with an IP system enabling players to purchase old runes. The number of playable champions is likely to exceed 60, and both bot matches and ranked modes will be introduced.
At this point, everyone is already looking forward to those ancient champions, such as the old Fiora wiping out teams with her ultimate, old Graves dealing massive burst, old Taric with a guaranteed stun, as well as AP Master Yi, Sunfire Cape Shaco, DFG AP assassins, and more. All overpowered champions will be usable.

It is expected that after the Classic Server launches, it will attract a large number of players online, generating very high popularity. Many streamers will also join in, developing different playstyles or team compositions. However, the Classic Server has its own inherent flaw: the nature of MOBA games means its popularity will not last long.
Analysis of Classic Server's Weakness: Imbalanced Version
Many games have previously launched classic servers and received a warm welcome from players. LoL clearly aims to replicate this success. However, it must be noted that LoL is a MOBA game with significant limitations. The core issue is that a fixed version is inherently unbalanced—there are only so many strong champions, and the potential for development is relatively low.

In contrast to Hextech ARAM, where different hextech upgrades can be combined with items to create various playstyles, the old version has limited room for innovation. Most players will likely discover after a while that the number of strong champion strategies is finite. If you play other champions, the game experience can be very poor.
At first, players can enjoy the pure fun of the nostalgic version, caring little about winning or losing. But after some time, as the game experience deteriorates or they grow tired of the old champions, their interest may gradually fade.

Additionally, the Classic Server requires players to start from scratch: leveling up from 0 to 30 to unlock runes and masteries, and purchasing champions. The developers will likely introduce events to encourage players to play more matches.
Core Issue of the Old Season: Whether to Update the Version
In comparison, games like World of Warcraft and Dungeon & Fighter are progression-based, so their classic servers offer high replayability and sustained excitement, keeping players engaged for a long time without boredom. LoL is different. Consequently, designers may need to find ways to enhance the replayability of the old season. The key question arises: should the Classic Server update its version?

Editor
According to players' views, the most enjoyable scenario is that strong champions remain unnerfed. Designers should ideally avoid touching champions or items. In that case, the only aspect open to adjustment might be runes and masteries.
However, runes and masteries have been changed too many times, leaving little room for further modification.
Under these circumstances, I personally believe there is an extreme approach: combine the Classic Server with Hextech ARAM. Initially, do not open the ARAM mode. Once players have grown tired of the champions and 5v5 matchmaking/ranked modes, launch a Hextech ARAM mode later. At that point, the variety of possible playstyles would greatly increase.

In summary, most players are quite interested in this Classic Server. It remains to be seen whether the developers can maintain its popularity for as long as possible.
