LOL-MSI: HLE's "dimension reduction strike" teamfights were a thing of beauty, as they swept G2 3-0 to advance to the winners' bracket final

On July 5th Beijing time, the second match of day three in the 2026 MSI knockout stage saw LCK's top seed HLE take on LEC's top seed G2 in the winners' bracket. The gap in lane mechanics, skirmish coordination, and macro play between the two teams was enormous. Although G2 traded blows with HLE during the mid-game of the first match, HLE found their breakthrough bot lane in game two, rapidly snowballing their lead with beautiful mid-game teamfights. G2 became mere spectators to HLE's performance, and in the end HLE cleanly swept G2 3-0, securing a dominant spot in the winners' bracket final!

Game 1

HLE: Ambessa, Vi, Yasuo, Ziggs, Camille

G2: Warwick, Xin Zhao, Ryze, Seraphine, Nautilus

At the 3-minute mark, both teams' junglers and supports clashed in the top lane. Kanavi's Vi missed her Q, but BrokenBlade's Warwick, with his E active, feared three HLE members. Xin Zhao secured first blood on Vi, and Warwick also took down Camille, giving G2 a 0-for-2 start and early momentum.

The early game saw frequent small-scale skirmishes. G2's bot lane swapped to the top but was caught in a 3-vs-2 by HLE's top-jungle-support, resulting in both G2 members dying. In the subsequent dragon fight, HLE's superior kiting earned them another 0-for-2 and control of the Hextech Drake, stabilizing the game. Although G2 caught Camille warding in HLE's bot side jungle, their tower dive on Ambessa in the top lane was thwarted by HLE's swift reinforcements. HLE chased G2 into their top side jungle and countered with a 0-for-2, and Zeka's Yasuo solo-killed the top lane first tower.

At 14 minutes, BrokenBlade's Warwick initiated bot lane, trying to create a breakthrough. Zeus's Ambessa responded by ulting Warwick into the air, resulting in a solo kill. Before Baron spawned, G2 managed a 3-for-3 exchange mid lane but failed to take the mid tower. HLE held all three dragons, destroyed all G2 outer towers, and led by 5k gold.

With all G2 outer towers down, venturing into the Baron river for vision was too risky, so G2 conceded Baron. They then five-manned Ambessa bot lane under tower, killing her and taking the tower. When the dragon respawned, both teams skirmished in the bot river. G2 spotted Gumayusi's Ziggs without Flash, and Labrov's Nautilus used a Flash-ult to lock down Ziggs, allowing G2 to focus him down. With one member down, HLE still tried to dive the backline but lacked damage. Vi and Ambessa fell, and G2 secured a 0-for-3 and the Earth Dragon, breaking HLE's dragon soul streak.

At 27 minutes, HLE was spotted invading G2's bot side jungle. BrokenBlade's Warwick picked off HLE's bot lane duo, netting G2 a 3-for-4 trade. After both teams revived, another dragon pit fight erupted. Caps's Ryze ulted with Warwick into HLE's backline. Ziggs knocked himself away with W, while HLE's jungle and support used their ults to lock down multiple targets. With Ziggs free to deal massive damage and Yasuo ulting in from the flank, HLE turned the fight into a 2-for-5 ace, securing the Earth Dragon soul and extending their gold lead to 6k. Finally, G2 paid the price of a full wipe in the Baron river just to kill Ziggs once, allowing HLE to take Baron and push top lane inhibitor, ending the game in one clean push. HLE took a 1-0 lead!

Game 2

HLE: Anivia, Jarvan IV, Sylas, Lucian, Milio

G2: Yasuo, Lee Sin, Syndra, Aphana, Lulu

After losing the first game, G2 adjusted their draft. Early on, they had lane priority top and mid, but HLE's "Lucian-Milio" combo was oppressive bot lane. By level 3, they had chunked G2's bot duo, forcing them to farm under tower. At 5 minutes, Hans Sama's Aphana engaged in a heated trade with Gumayusi's Lucian, but ended up with a sliver of health and retreated under tower. Zeka's Sylas, lurking in the shadows, landed a precise Q for first blood. HLE's mid-jungle then dove again, killing G2's jungle and support, while Lucian secured a double kill. HLE had a 0-for-3 lead and took off!

G2's bot lane disadvantage was so severe that Lee Sin had to hover bot side to protect Aphana's development. This allowed Kanavi's Jarvan IV to gank top uncontested, killing Yasuo and taking Voidgrubs. The massive item disparity between the bot lanes meant G2 lost every small skirmish due to lack of damage. HLE secured two dragons and destroyed all G2 outer towers. At 17 minutes, Zeka's Sylas roamed top and solo-killed Caps's Syndra with a fluid combo, chunking her low, then using Rocketbelt into E for a clean finish. G2's pace completely collapsed. Before Baron spawned, HLE's top and mid secured multiple pickoffs, totaling a 0-for-3 trade. G2 only had their bot inner tower left outside high ground, trailing by 7k gold.

With full item leads and crisp execution, the mid-game turned into HLE's "showmatch." HLE ambushed Lulu while she was warding in G2's top side jungle, chased G2 all the way to their base, and scored a 0-for-3. Sylas grabbed a double kill, and HLE took Baron uncontested, swelling their gold lead to over 10k. At 23 minutes, HLE pushed G2's bot lane high ground. Zeka's Sylas copied Lulu's ultimate, applying it to Jarvan IV who had initiated, instantly knocking up four G2 members. HLE then rolled over G2 in a 0-for-4 and ended the game cleanly, taking a 2-0 match point!

Game 3

HLE: Rumble, Naafiri, LeBlanc, Caitlyn, Bard

G2: Twisted Fate, Wukong, Cassiopeia, Ezreal, Karma

At the start, Zeka's LeBlanc and HLE's bot lane hid in a bush near the bot lane minion wave. LeBlanc's E chain forced Labrov's Karma to Flash, but Delight's Bard missed his Q, failing to stun Karma. Both sides retreated safely. At 4 minutes, Naafiri ganked bot, but Wukong was counter-ganking. HLE initially tried to retreat, but Karma accidentally stepped on a Caitlyn trap in the brush. With her Flash still on cooldown, Naafiri pounced, using Flash to finish the kill and secure first blood.

In the early game, HLE dominated both top and mid: Naafiri ganked top successfully, assisting Rumble in killing Twisted Fate; meanwhile, Zeka's LeBlanc solo-killed Caps's Cassiopeia under mid tower. G2's pace stalled again, and Wukong could only take the dragon to mitigate losses. At 11 minutes, Wukong tried to gank bot, but Naafiri was counter-ganking again. Bard used his E (Magical Journey) to escape, and Caitlyn Flashed to avoid Wukong's ult knock-up. HLE turned the fight for a 0-for-2 and took G2's bot lane first tower.

HLE accelerated their tempo on all fronts, repeatedly invading G2's jungle and forcing fights. G2 grew weaker and weaker, losing crucial map vision, and HLE snowballed to a 7k gold lead. G2 attempted a mid lane all-in on Caitlyn, but HLE's reinforcements arrived in time, allowing Caitlyn to secure a triple kill. HLE won the 2-for-4 exchange and pushed through G2's mid inner tower.

Before Baron spawned, HLE scored another 0-for-2 in G2's top side jungle, then took G2's top inner tower. Gumayusi's Caitlyn boasted a pristine 10/0 scoreline, backed to buy Infinity Edge as her third item, and then picked up a double kill bot lane. With G2's bot inner tower down, they could only hug their high ground turrets to farm. HLE took Baron without contest, pushed bot lane high ground, and aced G2 in a 2-for-5 teamfight. The gold difference ballooned to 14k. HLE recalled, healed up, and pushed mid lane to end the game in a single wave, sweeping G2 3-0 and advancing to the winners' bracket final!
