In the third segment of LPL, IG faced TES in a BO3 series. After three intense matches, TES defeated IG with a score of 2-1, securing their first victory! Amidst controversy, IG changed their jungler, starting wei, but his debut ended in failure, and of course, the player receiving the most backlash was Gala.
IG's official blog also erupted after the match, with many fans angrily criticizing Gala: all three games performed poorly; did the AD not attend practice matches? In the first game, his Jhin and in the second game, his Ezreal had very low skill hit rates, and in the third game, his Graves effectively lost the entire match. Did he do justice to his teammates? Regarding wei's performance, several IG fans also expressed: it looked okay, but the one who should have been replaced was not the jungler; there’s someone else.
LPL's official commentators, Miller and MaoMao, also discussed the reasons for IG's defeat. They believed that during that moment when Gala's Graves was caught, IG could have chosen not to engage, as the Herald wouldn’t significantly influence the match's direction. In the final moments, after IG secured the Baron buff, they realized it would be hard to push, possibly wanting to return home to buy items to see if they could secure the Dragon Soul. Even if they didn’t get the Dragon Soul, they could still stall, but ultimately, the positioning of the double carries and others was too scattered, allowing TES to find an opportunity.
In fact, IG had a chance to win the third game; they had a decent early advantage, and key players on TES were behind in equipment. However, after Gala's Graves was caught before the dragon pit, IG lost four players in a 4v5 situation, allowing TES to secure the Herald and replenish their gear, closing the economic gap and starting to trade blows. After that, IG struggled to deal with creme's Akali, and although Gala's Graves had Flash, he was quickly eliminated. Unless TES made a serious mistake, it would be hard for IG to win. Additionally, Gala has always had a fear of the Akali champion, so it’s difficult to say if his poor performance in the third game was psychologically influenced. IG might need to consider banning Akali in the future.
As for wei's performance, aside from his lackluster showing with Monkey King in the first game, he performed well in the last two matches, establishing rhythm early and confidently initiating team fights. Although his ultimate on Sejuani in the third game had a low hit rate, he played methodically, transitioning to protect the solo lanes after the laning phase, which differed from jiejie's approach. Jiejie tends to team up with Meiko to control the jungle and support, while wei primarily focuses on protecting the growth of the solo lanes. It’s hard to determine the impact of wei's addition after just one match; all we can say is that it looks promising now, and hopefully, there will be better synergy in the future!
