Aloysius Yapp, nicknamed Majin Buu, claimed the US Open 2025 championship by overcoming Fedor Gorst in the final with a 13-11 scoreline.
After years of dedication and the pain of a 2021 final defeat, Aloysius Yapp finally lifted the prestigious Barry Behrman trophy and donned the iconic blue jacket at the US Open. Singapore’s top player defeated world number one Fedor Gorst in an intense three-hour battle at Harrah Resort. Previously, he had decisively beaten former world champion Ko Pin Yi (Chinese Taipei) 11-4 in the semifinals.
Yapp became the first player to win three consecutive major Matchroom tournaments, following the UK Open in May and the Florida Open in early August. Before him, no one had ever won two major titles back-to-back. At the $500,000 prize event, the left-handed player said: “This is the pinnacle achievement. I understand how prestigious this event is. I am truly lost for words; it feels unreal. I gave Gorst many opportunities but was also lucky. Now I feel very relieved. My hand is shaking; I can barely hold the cue.”
