The last Vietnamese cueist at the Hanoi Open Pool 2025 has officially been eliminated.

On the morning of October 11th, at the My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena (Hanoi), the final round of the Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2025 officially began. However, Vietnam’s last hope, cueist Đinh Chấn Kiệt, was unable to continue after losing 2-10 to Jonas Souto in the round of 16 match held that day.

Đinh Chấn Kiệt, considered the tournament’s "dark horse," caused a major upset by reaching the top 16 players at Hanoi Open Pool 2025. Before that, he had undergone a challenging journey. In the qualifiers, Chấn Kiệt lost 2-9 to Vietnam’s number one player Dương Quốc Hoàng in his first match and dropped into the losers’ bracket. However, with remarkable determination, he consecutively defeated two Filipino players, Anton Raga and Jefrey Roda, to secure a place in the round of 16.

Nevertheless, in the round of 16, Đinh Chấn Kiệt could not create another miracle when facing Jonas Souto – the Spanish player in dominant form. Souto showed overwhelming control with precise break shots, hardly giving Chấn Kiệt any chance to score. The final score of 10-2 in favor of Souto ended the Vietnamese player’s dream. This match also proved Souto’s strength, who had previously eliminated the defending champion Johann Chua in the previous round, turning Chua into the former champion.

Hanoi Open Pool 2025, held from October 7 to 12 in Hanoi, brought together 256 players from 40 countries, with a total prize pool of 200,000 USD, where the champion would receive 40,000 USD. This year’s tournament saw many surprises as big names like world number one Fedor Gorst and Johann Chua were eliminated early in the round of 32. Meanwhile, other Vietnamese players such as Dương Quốc Hoàng, Nguyễn Thế Hiền, and Bùi Trường An also failed to progress, each bowing out in the round of 16 against strong opponents like Roberto Gomez, David Alcaide, and Moritz Neuhausen.

Although he did not win, Đinh Chấn Kiệt’s journey left a beautiful mark in the hearts of fans. He became a rare highlight for Vietnamese billiards at the tournament. Besides the intense matches, Hanoi Open Pool 2025 also spread humanitarian values as the organizers donated 100 million VND from ticket sales to support compatriots affected by recent floods, reflecting a spirit of unity and social responsibility.
