Pijus Labutis, the Lithuanian cueist, impressively defeated Moritz Neuhausen 13-7 to win the Hanoi Open Pool 2025 title, securing a massive prize exceeding 1 billion VND (40,000 USD).
The Hanoi Open Pool 2025 is among the largest events on the World Nineball Tour, taking place from October 8 to 12. The competition featured 256 top players from more than 40 countries, with a total prize fund reaching 200,000 USD. This marks the third time the Hanoi Open has been held, building on the successes of previous champions Johann Chua (2024) and Jayson Shaw (2023). Despite facing adverse weather conditions and flooding early in the week, the tournament was vibrant and energized by the enthusiastic support of over 3,000 Vietnamese fans.
Labutis, aged 30, was not highly favored before the event but delivered an impressive performance. He defeated Raymund Faraon (Philippines) in the round of 16, Carlo Biado (Philippines) in the quarterfinals, and Robbie Capito (Hong Kong) in the semifinals, before facing Neuhausen—the recent Peri Open 2025 champion.
Labutis has become the new champion of Hanoi Open Pool 2025
In the recently finished race-to-13 final, with steady play, excellent table control, and assertive breaks, Labutis took an early lead of 7-3, then maintained his commanding advantage to close the match at 13-7. This victory also represents the first WNT Major title in the career of the player known as Labubu.
Although Neuhausen was defeated, he put on a commendable show by knocking out prominent players like David Alcaide (Spain) and Harry Vergara (Philippines). He received 16,000 USD as the runner-up prize. The tournament had previously witnessed several upsets, with strong contenders such as Fedor Gorst, Dương Quốc Hoàng, and defending champion Johan Chua all exiting early.
