Vietnam Women’s National Team Striker: 'We will strive to defend our SEA Games 33 gold medal'

Striker Pham Hai Yen stated that the Vietnamese women’s national team is aiming to successfully defend their gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, which will take place at the end of the year.

In the third-place playoff against Thailand, the Vietnamese women’s team secured a 3-1 win, with striker Pham Hai Yen opening the scoring in the 45th minute. Reflecting on her goal, the 1994-born player shared:"My goal was the result of our training sessions. Coach Mai Duc Chung often has us practice switching play to exploit spaces behind the opponent’s defense."

Although the team did not make it to the final, the Vietnamese women’s squad had a memorable journey. Hai Yen commented: "Our greatest strength is unity and determination. Even though we didn’t reach the final this time, everyone gave their all throughout the journey."

Hai Yen was the top scorer for the Vietnamese women’s team, netting four goals in five matches. The Hanoi club player consistently posed a threat on the pitch with her speed and quickness in entering the box.

After the 2025 ASEAN Cup, the Vietnamese women’s team will begin preparations for the 33rd SEA Games, to be held in Thailand in December. Regarding the team’s target for the upcoming tournament, Hai Yen said: "Next, the whole team will focus on competing in the national league, then prepare to defend our gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games." 

Wrapping up her comments, the 1994-born striker made sure to thank the fans who have always supported the team: "Thank you to all the fans who have always been by our side. We hope for your continued support in the future, and we will always give our best."
