The 15-year-old talent Max Dowman has become the center of attention after a string of remarkable friendlies. Yet, captain Martin Odegaard has issued a caution, urging patience to allow the youngster to grow properly.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard recently called for patience regarding young talent Max Dowman, who has been making waves with his outstanding performances during the 2025 summer tour.
Dowman, just 15 years old this year, is a distinguished product of the renowned Hale End academy. Despite his youth, the midfielder was given a chance by coach Mikel Arteta to feature in the first team during the friendly matches. In Singapore, Dowman showed maturity against AC Milan and notably earned a penalty that helped Arsenal secure a 3-2 victory over Newcastle. These displays have excited many fans, with some even comparing him to Lionel Messi.
However, Odegaard remains cautious. On the Men In Blazerspodcast, the Norwegian star stated: “He is an exceptional talent, and everyone can clearly see that. But it’s important not to put too much pressure on him too soon. We need to give him time to grow, develop naturally, and enjoy playing football. Our role is to support and create the right environment for him to progress on the proper path.”
Odegaard also shared his own experience of emerging at a young age: “When you join the first team, life changes quickly. Expectations, attention, and pressure all come fast. The key is to stay focused, work hard, and keep enjoying the game.”
Dowman is the latest name continuing the tradition of producing talent from Hale End, following Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Arsenal is reportedly managing Dowman’s development carefully, prioritizing opportunities in cup competitions. Besides football, the young player must also balance his studies in preparation for the GCSE exams next spring.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is still aiming for a major goal: ending their three-season wait for a Premier League title. Although Dowman is unlikely to be a regular contributor just yet, his potential, combined with guidance from Odegaard and coach Arteta, promises a bright future for the “Gunners.”
