Nuno Espirito Santo's position at Nottingham Forest has become unstable following just a single match in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the management at City Ground is contemplating a coaching change despite Forest’s 3-1 victory over Brentford in the opening round.
The issue stems from internal conflicts between Nuno Santo and the club’s owners, particularly regarding the summer transfer policy. Reports indicate that some of the signings brought in by the club did not have the approval of the Portuguese coach, causing prolonged tensions in the meeting room. Forest completed several player acquisitions that did not align with the sporting plan proposed by Nuno, making him feel sidelined from crucial decisions.
Before the season started, Nuno Santo openly expressed dissatisfaction with the club’s transfer dealings. He asserted that Nottingham Forest is “far behind” their targets in terms of preparation, planning, and squad quality. Nuno candidly stated:
“We are very, very far from where we should be. In preparation, planning, and squad quality, everything falls short. What worries me most is that in just a few days, we will compete in the Premier League, the toughest league in the world, but the team is not ready. The initial plans failed, and we haven’t had the chance to build cohesion within the squad.”
The quick consideration by Nottingham Forest’s leadership to replace the coach after one match reveals serious disagreements about the club’s development direction. Several potential replacements have been mentioned, though no official names have been confirmed yet.
If this tension is not resolved, Nottingham Forest could face instability right from the start of the season, despite their promising start against Brentford.
