Eberechi Eze chose not to play for Crystal Palace yesterday in order to undergo a medical check at Arsenal. The key question is if he can debut at Emirates Stadium by this weekend.
Eberechi Eze has become the focus of Arsenal fans after the Gunners agreed to sign him from Crystal Palace for a fee of £60 million. However, the biggest question now is Will Eze be able to play in the match against Leeds United this weekend?
According to reliable sources in the UK, Arsenal has arranged for Eze to undergo a medical in London today (22/08). However, even if he passes the medical, the Gunners are unlikely to complete the registration process in time for Saturday’s match at Emirates Stadium. This means Eze is almost certain to miss the game against Leeds.
On Crystal Palace's side, Eze’s departure has caused disruption within the team. In the Europa Conference League match against Fredrikstad yesterday, Eze voluntarily withdrew from the squad. Coach Oliver Glasner expressed his frustration: “I expected Eze to play today, but he called me this morning to say he wasn’t ready. We have less than 10 days left to find a replacement, and we should have handled this better.” The Austrian coach even joked that if Marc Guehi also leaves the team, he might have to “put on his boots and play as a center-back”.
Meanwhile, Palace chairman Steve Parish emphasized that the club must move forward quickly after this transfer: “We love Eze for what he has contributed, but the team must keep moving forward.”
For Arsenal, the Eze transfer was accelerated due to Kai Havertz suffering a knee injury that could sideline him for up to 8 weeks. New sporting director Andrea Berta played a key role in finalizing the deal. Despite securing a high-profile signing, coach Mikel Arteta will have to wait at least another week before he can include Eze in the squad.
Therefore, Arsenal fans will have to wait until the next round to see the 26-year-old newcomer officially wear the red and white jersey.
