Marc Guehi's future at Crystal Palace is more uncertain than ever. With under a year remaining on his contract, Liverpool is eager to secure his transfer in the upcoming summer window.
Marc Guehi's future at Crystal Palace has become a focal point following their 1-0 victory over Fredrikstad in the first leg of the Conference League play-offs. The 25-year-old English defender, with less than a year left on his deal, is currently valued by Palace at around £45 million. However, facing the risk of losing him for free next summer, the London club is forced to consider selling him in this transfer period.
After the match against Fredrikstad, Guehi stirred more speculation by thanking the fans and then turning to the camera with a knowing smile. When asked about the rumors, he simply laughed and said, “There are plenty of other players,” seemingly trying to downplay the attention.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish acknowledged the increasingly difficult situation: “If Marc wants to sign a new contract, he will stay. But this is not an easy situation. All clubs have to sell players to comply with financial regulations. We will have to carefully consider our options over the next 11 days.”
Having joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable center-backs. He has played over 150 matches, playing a key role in the club’s most successful period, highlighted by their first-ever FA Cup win earlier this year, followed by a Community Shield victory over Liverpool.
Coach Oliver Glasner, who was already unhappy with how the management handled Eberechi Eze’s future, is now even more concerned about potentially losing another key player. The Austrian manager hopes Guehi will participate in the upcoming matches against Nottingham Forest and the second leg against Fredrikstad. However, he understands that the final decision may be beyond his control if Liverpool accelerates negotiations.
With the transfer window closing soon, Marc Guehi’s future promises to be one of the most talked-about deals in this summer’s Premier League market.
