Coach Popov praises Damian Vũ’s display and states that Thể Công - Viettel still need to work on certain aspects.
Thể Công - Viettel secured their first win in the V-League against Công an TPHCM. In this match, Coach Popov’s team dominated the opponent, executed effective attacks, and showed solid defense.
After the game, Coach Popov admitted that goalkeeper Văn Việt didn’t have many tasks and praised the defensive line.
The Bulgarian coach shared: “We have healthy competition in every position, including the goalkeeper spot. In the opening match against CAHN, Phong played very well. Today, expecting more situations requiring footwork, we chose Văn Việt. Currently, the club rotates all positions to ensure fair competition within the team. The defense operated firmly today; most of the time, the goalkeeper had little work, except for the moment when Trâm passed back, leaving Tiến Linh one-on-one.”
He also praised the Polish-Vietnamese player Damian Vũ, who made an impressive debut by scoring the second goal shortly after coming on: “Damian fulfilled his role very well upon entering the field. I don’t want to single out individuals; the most important thing is the team’s cohesion and scoring goals. However, we still need to improve our finishing. Overall, the players followed the tactics well, controlled possession, managed the tempo, and launched attacks. We made some minor tactical adjustments, took about 5-10 minutes to adapt, and then everything ran more smoothly.”
We missed quite a few chances, but the most important thing is the 3 points. Whether the score is 3-0, 5-0, or 1-0, it still counts as 3 points.”
Thể Công - Viettel temporarily lead the table and will face Becamex TPHCM at home in Hàng Đẫy Stadium on August 29 in the next round.
