Coach Kim Sang Sik is worried about the captain of the Vietnam national team

Coach Kim Sang Sik might be anxious as Khuất Văn Khang got injured in Thể Công Viettel’s win against Công an TP.HCM.

Thể Công Viettel secured their first win in the V-League for the 2025/26 season by easily defeating Công an TP.HCM in round 2. However, the military team now faces a headache regarding personnel due to an injury to a key player.

Specifically, midfielder Khuất Văn Khang suffered a serious injury in the first half and had to be taken off for emergency treatment. The 2003-born midfielder collided with Tẩy Văn Toàn in the 36th minute, resulting in a laceration on his mouth. Medical staff promptly intervened by applying a pressure bandage to stop the bleeding before Văn Khang was rushed directly to the hospital for stitches.

This news is not very positive for Thể Công Viettel, as the new season has just started and Văn Khang has been a crucial pillar of the team over the past years. If he cannot play in the near future, Coach Velizar Popov will likely face the challenge of finding a suitable replacement star.

Moreover, Văn Khang’s injury could also impact the strength of Vietnam U23 in the 2026 Asian qualifiers.

The star from Phúc Thọ is the captain of Vietnam U23 under Coach Kim Sang Sik during the campaign to conquer the Southeast Asian U23 Championship last month. Therefore, the Korean strategist might face difficulties in selecting players if Văn Khang does not recover in time.

In this match, Coach Kim Sang Sik was also present in the stands to observe the performances of the stars. This might also be an opportunity for the 48-year-old coach to discover new talents for both Vietnam U23 and the national team.

Returning to the match events, despite the loss of Văn Khang, Thể Công Viettel played steadily and opened the scoring through Pedro Henrique. In the second half, the home team continued to dominate and scored two more goals thanks to Damian Vũ and Lucao, sealing a convincing 3-0 victory over the police team.

This win helped Coach Velizar Popov’s team rise to the top of the standings with four points, although they have played one more match than their rivals. Conversely, the defeat dropped Công an TP.HCM to sixth place.
