Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the plans for Ganajo and Xavi Simons to join Chelsea remain unchanged, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The Blues have made significant adjustments to their squad this summer, potentially signing up to five new players. Enzo Maresca reportedly hopes to have seven or eight attackers available for rotation in the upcoming season, having just finished the Club World Cup and now facing multiple competitions.
“Chelsea’s plan is still to sign both players simultaneously,” Romano said. Ganajo has personally agreed to join Chelsea, with the contract fully settled, awaiting only club-level agreement. Although Chelsea already has several wingers, including a 21-year-old Argentine who mainly plays on the left flank, there is also the new signing Gittens, valued at over £50 million.
However, Maresca wants two equally strong players competing for each position. Once Ganajo joins, he can compete with Gittens for a starting spot, as the latter is still adjusting to the Premier League’s pace. The Manchester United winger believes he has a chance. Ganajo has expressed to Manchester United that he will only transfer if it is to Chelsea.
From Chelsea’s perspective, they aim to buy Ganajo for £30 million, which would put the club in a very strong position. Taking advantage of Ganajo’s fallout with Manchester United and Amolin, they hope to sign him at a low price. Even if he doesn’t establish himself in the team, selling him later would still be profitable.
During this transfer window, Chelsea has successfully sold players like Noni Madueke, Georgi Petrovic, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, Leslie Ugochukwu, and Armando Broja, making profits from these deals. If not for conflicts with the club and coach, selling Ganajo for forty to fifty million pounds wouldn’t be a major issue.
At the press conference before the second round of the Premier League, Amolin admitted that Manchester United faced difficulties selling players. He excluded several players from the first team early on, which weakened the club’s negotiating position. These players then chose their preferred clubs and refused other buyers, further complicating the transfers.
Amolin stated: “I know it’s not good when players in the squad want to join different clubs, that’s very clear. So we try to arrange everything to satisfy everyone. I initially planned to train only with players who have a future here, while others prepare for the next chapter in their careers. But if the summer window closes, that’s another story. I might have to accept some players; anything can happen in life.”
But such forced actions are not ideal. Ten Hag and Sancho appeared reconciled on the surface, yet it didn’t yield good results. The English winger missed a penalty in the Community Shield, causing Manchester United to lose to Manchester City.
Ten Hag also hinted that contract renewal talks with youth midfielder Coby Meno have stalled. The 20-year-old English midfielder emerged strongly in the 2023/24 season, scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final and becoming a key player for England in the European Championship. However, his form declined last season, and his demand for a £200,000 weekly wage caused controversy.
“That’s Jason (Wilcox)’s responsibility. Coby (Meno) is our player, his contract is still valid, and I haven’t heard any news about renewal,” Amolin said. “We must understand that young players go through different phases during the season. This is normal because with many matches, situations change, but he has always been there, training hard. He is one of the candidates fighting for victories in matches.”
