Real Madrid's summer signing, Trent Alexander-Arnold, is likely to be dropped from the starting lineup by coach Xabi Alonso after a beginning at Bernabeu described as a “disaster.”
Real Madrid paid Liverpool 10 million Euros to terminate Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract early in early June. Despite impressing with his fluent Spanish during his unveiling, the 26-year-old star has struggled greatly on the pitch. After seven appearances for the Royal team, his performance was heavily criticized six times, increasing the pressure on him.
Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal—who missed most of last season due to a serious injury—has started to return with several substitute appearances. Experts believe this means Trent will soon be relegated to a backup role. La Liga journalist Javi Casquero stated: “If Carvajal regains his top form, Trent should prepare to be on the bench at Real Madrid.”
Disappointment is also spreading among Los Blancos fans. Supporter Coto Matamoro expressed on Sport: “What’s happening with Trent is a tragedy. Every time he plays for Madrid, it’s a letdown. This signing is puzzling; he hasn’t contributed anything. If this continues, Carvajal will definitely take the starting spot.”
Coach Xabi Alonso also hinted at handing the key role back to the experienced Spaniard: “He contributes not only on the field but also mentally. Carvajal is the captain, carries many responsibilities, and has extensive experience at Bernabéu, in Europe, and La Liga. He knows how to win, and passing that on is crucial. Carvajal is ready to return.”
Bernabéu has long been known as a tough environment for newcomers, and Alexander-Arnold is experiencing this harsh reality bitterly.
