Marcus Rashford was withdrawn just after halftime during his first official match for Barcelona, while his team was down 0-2 to Levante.
The England star made his Barcelona debut from the bench last week, playing 20 minutes in a 3-0 victory over Mallorca. That performance earned Marcus Rashford a starting spot in the away match at Levante which took place early on August 24 (Vietnam time). However, he disappointed and was substituted right after the first half.
Rashford left the pitch alongside Marc Casado, making way for Dani Olmo and Gavi. Just 4 minutes later, Barcelona began their comeback when Pedri unleashed a powerful long-range shot that beat the goalkeeper. Three minutes after that, the score was leveled as former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres volleyed beautifully from a corner kick.
Despite Barca’s impressive comeback, Rashford’s performance became the focus of criticism. Many fans believed he brought a “losing mentality” from Old Trafford to the Nou Camp. One commenter said: “Rashford successfully brought Manchester United’s losing spirit to Barca.”
Another mocked: “Why did the coach start Rashford? He dragged Manchester United’s gloomy shadow all the way to Barcelona.”
A harsher opinion stated: “You can take Rashford out of Man Utd, but you can’t take Man Utd out of Rashford.”
Meanwhile, another fan angrily remarked: “Rashford plays as if he’s still wearing a Man Utd jersey, completely lacking intelligence and positional sense. Does he think just running is enough? This is Barcelona, you have to play smart!”
Barcelona continued pressing for the winning goal and had to wait until stoppage time. As expected, Lamine Yamal was the game-changer with a precise cross to the far post, forcing Levante defender Unai Elgezabal into an own goal, securing a dramatic victory for the Catalan club.
