According to talkSPORT, Arsenal's mainstays Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are not expected to be sidelined for an extended period following injuries sustained in the 5-0 win against Leeds.
In the match at Emirates Stadium, Odegaard was the first to leave the pitch after just 38 minutes due to a shoulder injury. Later, although Saka managed to score the second goal for Arsenal, he signaled to be substituted after a sprint and collision with an opponent. Notably, before leaving the field, the English star wore the captain's armband replacing Odegaard.
After the match, coach Mikel Arteta expressed his concern: “Martin has a shoulder issue and we will conduct a thorough examination tomorrow. As for Bukayo, he felt discomfort in his hamstring following a collision, but this is not the same area as his previous injury. We need to wait for more results to determine the exact severity.”
Although the exact recovery time is still unknown, Arteta believes Arsenal must prepare alternatives as they have lost several players in succession: “We have lost Kai (Havertz), and now Martin and Bukayo. That’s why Arsenal needs squad depth, because this season will be long and we definitely need all players.”
According to talkSPORT, the injuries to Saka and Odegaard are not severe but whether they will be ready for the away match at Liverpool on August 31 remains uncertain.
Besides the duo mentioned, Arsenal is currently missing several other important players. Forward Gabriel Jesus is still undergoing treatment for an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Kai Havertz is dealing with a knee problem. Ben White and Christian Norgaard were also absent for the match against Leeds.
Despite the depleted squad, Arsenal demonstrated their superior strength. Jurrien Timber and new signing Viktor Gyokeres both scored braces, and Saka contributed a goal, helping the “Gunners” secure a 5-0 win.
After two rounds, Arsenal has won both matches, scored six goals, and kept a clean sheet. Prior to that, they also had an important 1-0 victory over Manchester United. Notably, before the Leeds match, the club officially announced the blockbuster signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for a fee of £67.5 million.
