The final hurdle for Højlund’s departure from Manchester United has been revealed! McTominay is persuading him to join Napoli, while Bayern is out of the picture.

Although Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund continues training with the first team, his exit appears inevitable, as Ruben Amorim has left him out of the squad for two consecutive Premier League matches. According to "Italian Football," the 22-year-old Danish international intends to accept the offer from Serie A defending champions Napoli to replace the injured Lukaku.

However, there remains one last obstacle: Højlund reportedly demands a £5.6 million annual salary, equivalent to £110,000 per week, which the Italian club is reluctant to meet. It is said that Napoli is only willing to offer €4.5 million per year, about €90,000 weekly, roughly £78,000, close to his current Manchester United wage of £85,000 per week.

Manchester United’s transfer fee expectations are also clear, seeking a loan fee between €5 million and €6 million, with a compulsory purchase clause ranging from €35 million to €40 million. Provided the player agrees to Napoli’s personal terms, the club-level negotiations are expected to be straightforward. Napoli is willing to insert the buyout obligation, which would be triggered if Højlund meets simple performance criteria next season.

Højlund himself strongly insists that any loan this season must include a purchase obligation rather than just an option. He wants a stable contract at the new club, not to return to Manchester United after only one season on loan.

Over the weekend, rumors linked Højlund with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Reports indicate that Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, sold French winger Kingsley Coman without board approval, angering the leadership for not securing a replacement beforehand.

With players like Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané also departing Bayern this summer, the squad has become thin. The club has been actively seeking loan players, contacting Manchester United’s Antony, Sancho, and also Højlund among others.

However, a move to Bayern is highly unlikely for Højlund. He struggles for playing time at Manchester United; in Munich, he would only serve as backup to Harry Kane with limited opportunities. His agent’s negotiations with Napoli are considered positive and likely to reach an agreement.

Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Mannarino is reportedly in daily contact with Manchester United, who have agreed to Napoli’s request, telling them that the deal depends solely on convincing the Dane to accept the transfer. Now, the decision rests with Højlund himself whether to embrace this challenge.

According to Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli coach Conte has told Højlund that he will be a key player this season. With Serie A and the Champions League fixtures every three days, there will be plenty of chances for Højlund to regain confidence and form.

Napoli is pushing for Højlund and his representatives to agree to the transfer on Monday, as they want to quickly finalize a replacement for Lukaku. The club feels Monday could be a turning point in negotiations and a day when the deal advances.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained: "Napoli is negotiating contract details with Højlund; discussions are ongoing about terms and specifics. Obviously, Højlund might ask: ‘I can come to Napoli, but you have Lukaku, who will return from injury, and you signed Lorenzo Lucca this summer. What’s my role here? Why should I choose Napoli?’ So, Napoli will explain in detail the plan they have prepared for him.”

Former Manchester United player McTominay called Højlund after scoring in Serie A over the weekend to persuade him to join Napoli. McTominay’s experience is certainly the best example Conte can use to convince Højlund. Negotiations between Napoli and Højlund will continue in the coming days, with Manchester United waiting behind the scenes for the final agreement. If the transfer succeeds, it could mark a new chapter in the Danish striker’s career, while Amorim’s rebuilding of Manchester United would take another significant step forward.
