FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed deep sympathy to the Vietnam Football Federation after the loss of referee Trần Đình Thịnh.
On the morning of August 3, 2025, during a fitness test as part of the training program for supervision and refereeing in the 2025/26 national professional football leagues, an unfortunate incident occurred when referee Trần Đình Thịnh suddenly suffered a severe health emergency and had to be rushed to the hospital. The Vietnamese football referee later passed away despite medical efforts.
Recently, the FIFA President sent a letter of deep condolences to the Vietnam Football Federation on the death of referee Trần Đình Thịnh, a former FIFA referee who left a significant mark in major V-League matches.
In the letter, FIFA President Gianni Infantino acknowledged the valuable contributions of Mr. Trần Đình Thịnh to Vietnamese football: “A former FIFA referee who officiated many important matches in the V-League. He was always highly regarded for his dedication, professionalism, and sense of responsibility. His contributions and journey, both on and off the field, will never be forgotten, and he will truly be remembered by all…”
The FIFA President also extended his deepest sympathies to the Vietnam Football Federation, as well as to the family, friends, and loved ones of referee Trần Đình Thịnh.
