Midfielder Doãn Ngọc Tân will miss the upcoming FIFA Days in September with the Vietnam national team due to a serious injury sustained recently in the V-League.
Having just returned from injury, Doãn Ngọc Tân was struck by bad luck again with another injury. In the recent match against Hà Tĩnh, he collided heavily with Nguyễn Hoàng Trung Nguyên and Joseph Onoja. He immediately showed signs of pain, was substituted, and taken to the hospital for examination.
The results revealed that Doãn Ngọc Tân suffered fractures in three ribs, requiring surgery and an estimated 2-3 months of recovery. Therefore, he will be absent from the upcoming Vietnam national team training camp. Earlier in April 2025, Doãn Ngọc Tân broke his fibula during training with teammates, forcing him to miss the rest of the season. At that time, the midfielder expressed his sadness about the severe injury.
Doãn Ngọc Tân's absence will be a significant loss for Thanh Hóa FC. The team still struggles to stabilize their play under coach Choi Won-kwon, with an unimpressive record of 2 losses and 1 draw after three rounds. The Thanh Hóa squad is now facing even greater challenges.
Doãn Ngọc Tân is an almost irreplaceable pillar for Thanh Hóa. His contributions were crucial in the club’s two National Cup victories over the past two seasons. At the end of 2024, Ngọc Tân was called up to the Vietnam national team for the first time and played a key role in winning the AFF Cup. He participated in seven out of eight matches, totaling 481 minutes. Coach Kim Sang Sik particularly values Ngọc Tân’s energy, enthusiasm, fearlessness in challenges, and strong stamina. The Korean strategist once said he admires Ngọc Tân most for his silent dedication to the national team.
During the upcoming FIFA Days in September, the Vietnam national team will play two friendly matches against CAHN and Nam Định. Currently, coach Kim Sang Sik has not decided on any replacement players for Doãn Ngọc Tân.
