Following the appeal, the U22 Singapore squad was added to the roster for the men's football competition at SEA Games 33.
Specifically, according to information from the channel Channel NewsAsia (CNA), the SNOC appeals committee met on August 28 to review additional nominations from national sports associations (NSA). As a result, the U22 Singapore team was approved and will compete at SEA Games 33 held in Thailand.
Previously, the preliminary list for SEA Games 33 released by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) shocked many as it did not include any players from the U22 football team. Forrest Li, President of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), stated he would work with SNOC and its selection committee to try to secure the men's team’s participation in the Southeast Asian Games.
In recent years, Singapore football has experienced a significant decline, repeatedly being eliminated early in regional competitions. At SEA Games 32, the U22 Singapore team finished last in the group stage, losing all three matches and earning only one point from a draw against Laos. Historically, the U22 Singapore team has never won a gold medal; their best results are three silver medals (most recently in 1989) and seven bronze medals.
Recently, Singapore also did not send a team to the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
Returning to the earlier news, according to Channel NewsAsia, the Football Association of Singapore will select its top 23 players to participate under FAS. Following the meeting on August 28, an additional 218 athletes from 29 sports were approved to compete in SEA Games 33, setting a new record for the country's sports delegation at the event:
"They will join 762 athletes selected earlier this month, bringing Singapore’s total to 980 athletes across 48 sports — the largest delegation in SEA Games history," CNA quoted SNOC as saying.
