The Premier League has financially supported the Bundesliga: Tottenham intercept Chelsea with a €60 million deal to secure Xavi Simons.

The Premier League’s buying power strengthens annually. This summer, it has effectively supported the Bundesliga. Manchester United brought in Shevchenko, Newcastle signed Wolter Made, and now Tottenham is targeting Xavi Simons. Each of these transfers involves over €60 million, which would be headline signings elsewhere but are just minor expenditures for the Premier League.

According to Italy’s transfer expert Romano, Tottenham will pay €60 million to sign the 22-year-old Dutch attacking midfielder Xavi Simons from Leipzig, and Leipzig has already accepted the offer.

Romano reports that Tottenham and Leipzig have reached an agreement for Xavi Simons’ transfer at a fee of €60 million. Tottenham’s official offer was accepted by Leipzig, meaning Chelsea, who pursued Simons all summer, have been outbid by Tottenham. The club aims to finalize the deal by August 29, complete the medical exams within the next few hours, and announce the signing publicly soon.

Leipzig signed Xavi Simons from Paris in January 2025 for €50 million. Since then, he has played 78 matches across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists. This technically gifted player, developed in La Masia’s academy, excels in both passing and shooting.

Now 22 years old, Xavi Simons stands 1.79 meters tall, is right-footed, and primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a winger. His contract with Leipzig runs until 2027, and Transfermarkt values him at €70 million. Last season, he appeared 33 times for Leipzig in all competitions, starting 32 matches, totaling 2,763 minutes, and contributing 11 goals and 7 assists.

Many fans may think Xavi Simons’ slim build is unsuited for the physicality of the Premier League, but technically skilled midfielders can surprisingly thrive there. Perhaps Simons will perfectly replace the injured Maddison. Let’s wait and see! Under Flick’s management, Tottenham has continuously strengthened this summer, making this season promising. They have already started the Premier League with two straight wins and zero goals conceded—a dream start.
