In mid-August, over 30,000 fans filled the stands in Hong Kong to watch the Saudi Super Cup semifinal between Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad. Every touch by Ronaldo ignited the atmosphere, confirming the brand value he brings to the league.

According to local fans, many spectators from China, Saudi Arabia, and across the Asia-Pacific region traveled here just to see him. Since joining Al-Nassr at the end of 2022, Ronaldo has become the brand icon of the Saudi Pro League. His presence paved the way for other stars like Karim Benzema, Neymar, and Riyad Mahrez to join, turning the league into a major focus of global football attention.

However, experts warn that the Saudi Pro League still relies heavily on Ronaldo's fame. Professor Simon Chadwick (Emlyon Business School, Paris) commented: “People know Ronaldo plays in Saudi Arabia, but they might not be very familiar with Al-Nassr or the league itself. A deeper connection with fans is necessary.”

The organizers, however, present positive figures. Commercial director Wael Al Fayez stated that last season the league was broadcast in 180 countries, a significant increase from 150 countries the previous year. On social media, followers grew from 11 million to 15 million, with engagement levels rising by over 60%.

Still, building a global fanbase like Real Madrid or Liverpool is a long-term journey that may take decades. According to Chadwick, Saudi clubs need to develop their own identity and become the top force in Asia before expanding further.

In fact, last season three of the four semifinalists in the AFC Champions League were from Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ahli winning the title. With great ambitions and massive investments, the Saudi Pro League is striving to become the “football cradle outside Europe.” At the heart of this journey, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the brightest star.
