To get ready for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, on August 29, the Vietnam U23 team, led by coach Kim Sang Sik, will officially assemble in Viet Tri - Phu Tho. This location will also host the Group C matches. The team will train for five days before their opening game on September 3.
For this training camp, coach Kim Sang Sik has called up 24 players, with the core group still consisting of those who recently won the Southeast Asian U23 Championship. Notably, the Korean coach has also decided to give an opportunity to the overseas Vietnamese player Tran Thanh Trung from Ninh Binh Club, who recently returned to Vietnam.
Today, players who have completed their duties with their clubs in the V-League Round 3 will arrive in Viet Tri to meet coach Kim Sang Sik. The players Nguyen Cong Phuong, Khuat Van Khang, and Dang Tuan Phong from The Cong Viettel will join later as they still have a match against Ho Chi Minh City Police on August 30.
In the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, Vietnam U23 is grouped with three opponents: Bangladesh U23 (September 3), Singapore U23 (September 6), and Yemen U23 (September 9). Among them, Yemen is considered the main rival competing directly for a spot in the final tournament with coach Kim Sang Sik’s team.
The Korean coach recently called on fans to come to the stadium to support the players, helping the team achieve their set goals.
