Liverpool manager Arne Slot steers clear of commenting on the Alexander Isak transfer, while humorously noting Eddie Howe’s happiness as Newcastle gets ready to bring in Nick Woltemade, given their forward line challenges.
Liverpool’s Arne Slot shared notable remarks regarding Newcastle United’s transfer situation and The Reds’ plans. When asked about Alexander Isak’s deal, the Dutch coach referenced Newcastle’s imminent acquisition of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.
Previously, Liverpool offered £110 million for Isak, which Newcastle rejected. Multiple sources suggest The Reds may return with an even higher bid, potentially breaking the English football transfer record before the market closes at 7 pm on September 1st.
Meanwhile, Newcastle quickly strengthened their attack by signing Woltemade for £69.2 million. This is seen as significant support for Eddie Howe, especially with Anthony Gordon suspended for three matches and Isak unable to train fully with the squad.
When asked about this, Slot smiled and said: “If Newcastle have indeed signed a new number 9, that’s fantastic for Eddie because Anthony Gordon is suspended and Isak hasn’t been training much with the team. So, it’s great they have added another striker.”
The Liverpool manager also emphasized their plans to reinforce the squad: “After Monday evening, I mentioned again that I might make a change that could influence the game. That’s what Federico (Chiesa) did against Bournemouth and Rio (Ngumoha) did against Newcastle.
As usual, we try to sign players who can help us, but there’s no reason to complain after the first two matches. However, if we can strengthen the squad, we always try to do so to bring in the right players at the right time. There are only three or four days left, so let’s see if we do anything and what we can achieve if we do.”
On Sunday, August 31st, Liverpool will host Arsenal at Anfield in a highly anticipated match, as the two teams competed fiercely for the Premier League title last season.
