Numerous Indonesian fans expressed their opinions after the narrow loss to Vietnam’s U16 girls in the battle for third place.
The Vietnam and Indonesia U16 women's teams delivered a highly exciting contest for third place at the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship. Both sides played openly with a relaxed spirit, creating many scoring chances. Vietnam took the lead early, scoring through Ngọc Anh in the 2nd minute.
Indonesia's U16 girls quickly responded and equalized at the 15th minute. The two teams exchanged attacks until the final whistle, with no further goals scored. After 90 minutes ended in a draw, the match was decided by penalties. Vietnam showed greater composure, winning 7-6 to claim third place in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship.
Although they missed out on the bronze medal, most Indonesian fans praised their team’s performance. A fan named Adhy Laja commented: "Even though it's the youth team’s first international tournament, the Indonesian girls performed excellently. Hopefully, they will continue to improve in the future."
Similarly, a Facebook user named Malik Fauzi shared his view: "Reaching the semifinals is already beyond expectations. It's okay not to get the bronze medal; the Indonesian girls did very well."
Fan Yudiansyah also voiced support for Indonesia’s U16 girls after their narrow loss to Vietnam: "Losing on penalties is just a bit of bad luck. Reaching the semifinals is a great achievement; keep striving harder in upcoming tournaments."
Another fan said: "Being able to compete evenly with Vietnam’s women’s football team and drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes is already a success."
In fact, reaching the semifinals is Indonesia’s best result in the U16 women's regional competition. In their previous three appearances, they were eliminated in the group stage. For Vietnam’s U16 girls, this marks their fourth bronze medal in five participations, and they have never reached the final.
