Coach Kim Sang Sik urgently adds a player to the Vietnam national team

Midfielder Phan Du Học of HAGL club has been summoned to join the Vietnam national team, taking the place of Doãn Ngọc Tân.

On the afternoon of August 29, the Vietnam national team officially regrouped at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. According to Bongdaplus, midfielder Phan Du Học was urgently called up to replace Doãn Ngọc Tân, who recently suffered an injury.

In the match against Hà Tĩnh on August 27, the Thanh Hóa club midfielder had a heavy collision with Nguyễn Hoàng Trung Nguyên and Joseph Onoja. He immediately showed signs of pain, was substituted, and taken to the hospital for examination.

The results revealed that Doãn Ngọc Tân suffered fractures in three ribs, along with pleural effusion and pneumothorax, causing difficulty breathing and requiring immediate surgery. The Vietnam national team midfielder was treated at Hà Tĩnh hospital, expected to be sidelined for 2-3 months, and will definitely miss the September national team training camp.

Phan Du Học was the captain of U21 HAGL at the 2022 National U21 Championship. He later played for CAND club, winning the 2022 National First Division championship and securing promotion to the 2023 V-League. Afterwards, Du Học and other players returned to their parent club HAGL.

Phan Du Học was previously summoned to the Vietnam U23 team early in 2023 under coach Troussier but was dropped early when the squad was reduced. Last season, he was a key player for HAGL, appearing in 21 out of 26 V-League matches. This season, Du Học has played the full 90 minutes in all three opening rounds.

With the addition of Phan Du Học, the Vietnam national team will maintain a squad size of 24 players. During their training period at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, the team is scheduled to play two practice matches against Hanoi Police Club (on September 4) and Thep Xanh Nam Dinh Club (on September 7).

With a squad featuring many talented players, especially high-quality foreign recruits, these two clubs will serve as ideal sparring partners for the Vietnam national team’s training sessions. This camp will be led by interim head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh, while coach Kim Sang Sik is busy coaching the U23 Vietnam team for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers.
