Vietnamese overseas midfielder Tran Thanh Chung (Chung Nguyen Do) expressed great joy at his initial call-up to the Vietnam U23 squad.
On August 29, the Vietnam U23 team officially gathered in Viet Tri (Phu Tho) to prepare for the competition in Group C of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers. The most notable figure in this training camp is the Bulgaria-based Vietnamese midfielder Tran Thanh Trung, who currently plays for Ninh Binh Club.
When asked by the media about his first call-up to the Vietnam U23 team, the 2005-born player excitedly shared:
"I am very happy to be called up to the Vietnam U23 team. Even though I only returned to play a month ago, Coach Kim Sang Sik gave me the opportunity. It is both a blessing and a responsibility that I feel deeply. I will definitely strive to seize every chance and give my best for the Vietnamese flag."
"This is my first time working with Coach Kim Sang Sik. On the first day of gathering, we didn’t have much chance to talk. But over the next 10 days, through training and daily activities, I hope to communicate more and better understand Coach Kim Sang Sik,” Chung Nguyen Do added when asked about Coach Kim Sang Sik.
It is known that before being named in the Vietnam U23 squad, Thanh Trung requested FIFA to transfer his national federation affiliation so he could fully dedicate himself to the Vietnamese team. The 2005-born player also revealed that his parents are very proud of this:
"My parents are truly proud to know I have joined the Vietnam U23 team. I myself feel honored by this. This marks a new beginning in Tran Thanh Trung’s career. I will do my utmost for the Vietnam U23 team and make the fans proud of me."
