The Vietnam U16 women's squad is set to train in Germany after competing in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship.
The U16 women's teams of Vietnam and Indonesia produced a thrilling contest for third place at the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship. Playing with a relaxed spirit, both sides attacked actively, creating numerous scoring chances. Vietnam took the lead as early as the 2nd minute thanks to a goal by Ngọc Anh.
Indonesia quickly responded and equalized at the 15th minute. The two teams exchanged attacks until the final whistle with no additional goals. After 90 minutes ended in a draw, the match was decided by penalties. Vietnam showed greater composure and won 7-6, securing third place in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship.
According to the schedule, the entire team will return to Vietnam tomorrow (August 30), concluding their journey at the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship. Players will have a three-day break during the National Day holiday on September 2 before regrouping to prepare for the training camp in Germany aimed at the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Asian Qualifiers, expected to be held in October in Bình Dương.
The bronze medal earned at this tournament serves as a great encouragement for the young players and an important stepping stone for the future development of women's football in Vietnam.
Reflecting on the team's performance, Coach Okiyama said the players and coaching staff united and fought together. “We wanted to finish the match within 90 minutes. However, the opponent played well, strongly, and had home advantage.
Despite the intense pressure, our players remained confident, kept their spirits up, and gave their all. Taking penalties was also a valuable experience for them. Away from home, under the crowd's pressure, such opportunities don't come often, and the players performed admirably,” Coach Okiyama stated.
