Vietnam's futsal team has moved up 5 positions from 31st to 26th in the latest FIFA rankings update.
The FIFA futsal rankings for both men and women were updated on the afternoon of August 29. While the Vietnamese women's futsal team maintained their 11th place globally, the men's team showed significant progress. Coach Diego Giustozzi's squad climbed 5 places from 31st to 26th worldwide.
Specifically, Vietnam's futsal team gained 27.81 points in the FIFA rankings, increasing from 1143.21 to 1171.02 points. These points came from victories in international friendly matches in April 2025 against Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia. With this score, Vietnam is now very close to breaking into the top 24 in the world.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnam's futsal team remains ranked 3rd behind Indonesia (23rd worldwide) and Thailand (11th worldwide). However, the points gap between Vietnam and Indonesia has narrowed significantly and could be closed after the 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers.
Vietnam's futsal team assembled on August 18 at the Futsal Arena in District 8 (Ho Chi Minh City) before traveling to Kuwait for training from September 9 to 14, including two friendly matches against Kuwait on September 11 and 13. After this training camp, Coach Giustozzi’s team will head to China to compete in the 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers.
The 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers feature 31 teams divided into 8 groups: seven groups of four teams and one group of three. Teams will play a single round-robin at the host country's venue. The 8 group winners and the 7 best runners-up will qualify for the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship finals in Indonesia in January 2026. As hosts, Indonesia automatically qualify for the finals.
According to the draw results, Vietnam is placed in Group E with Lebanon, China, and Hong Kong (China). They will face Hong Kong on September 20, China on September 22, and Lebanon on September 24.
Before this training camp, Vietnam's futsal team had a warm-up phase in mid-March to early April with four international friendlies. Coach Giustozzi’s players won both matches against Saudi Arabia (2-1 and 3-2), secured one win and one draw against Kazakhstan (4-1 and 2-2), building positive momentum toward qualifying for the continental futsal finals.
