The Bangladesh U23 team arrived in Phu Tho at noon on August 30 to get ready for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers. They are the first international side in Group C to come to Vietnam.
Before arriving in Vietnam, this South Asian U23 team had a connecting flight through Bangkok, Thailand, which made the players somewhat fatigued. Nevertheless, the warm reception from Phu Tho province quickly eased that feeling.
The Bangladesh U23 squad participating in this qualifier has drawn attention with the inclusion of the naturalized striker Mitchell, originally from Cuba, who has English, Jamaican, and Bangladeshi roots. This player previously competed for the youth teams of Birmingham and Sunderland in England.

To prepare for the AFC U23 qualifiers, Bangladesh played two friendly matches against Bahrain U23 but lost 0-1 and 2-4. The team, coached by AKM Saiful Bari Titu, will be Vietnam U23’s first opponent in the tournament, with the match taking place at 7 PM on September 3 at Viet Tri Stadium.
Meanwhile, Yemen U23 will arrive in Vietnam at 1:15 PM on August 31 on flight EK394. In the qualifier squad, Yemen U23 has only one overseas player, goalkeeper Muhammad Ramadan Shuey Jumaan, who currently plays in Saudi Arabia.
The remaining 22 players all belong to domestic clubs. According to Yemeni media, coach Al Suneini wanted to summon the 17-year-old promising striker Adel Abbas Qasem, but this was not approved because the player had to join the Yemen U20 team for the 2025 West Asia U20 Championship.
Yemen U23 will travel from Dubai and arrive in Hanoi early afternoon on August 31, then continue their journey to Viet Tri. In the group, the West Asian team will face Singapore U23 (September 3), Bangladesh U23 (September 6), and Vietnam U23 (September 9).
Singapore U23 is the last team to arrive in Vietnam, landing at 5:35 PM on September 1 on flight SQ194.
