V-League foreign player misses World Cup qualifiers due to injury

Da Nang striker David Henen has had to pull out of the Togo national squad due to an injury sustained.

On his personal page, David Henen announced that he will miss the upcoming Togo national team call-up due to injury. This is truly unfortunate for the forward, who was recently recalled to the Togo squad after more than a year away.

During the upcoming FIFA international window in September, the Togo national team will participate in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, facing crucial matches against Mauritania and Sudan.

Born in 1996 in Belgium, David Henen holds Togolese nationality. He has earned 19 caps for Togo and scored one goal. Henen was once considered a promising talent. His football career began in Everton’s youth teams from 2015 to 2018, where he developed significantly and was valued at up to 300,000 Euros. Although he never secured a starting spot at Everton, Henen gained experience playing in various competitions and proved his worth.

In the first three rounds of the V-League, David Henen appeared in all three matches for SHB Da Nang, contributing two goals—one against Thanh Hoa in the opening round and another versus Ninh Binh. His current good form cut short by injury poses a difficult challenge for SHB Da Nang, who have only earned one point and lost their last two matches.

Besides David Henen, several other V-League foreign players have been called up to their national teams, such as Joseph Mpande, currently with PVF CAND club, who was recently recalled to Uganda’s national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Africa. Notably, this is Mpande’s first national team call-up in 10 years; his last appearance for Uganda was in 2014.

Additionally, Malaysia’s naturalized Brazilian midfielder Endrick has been summoned to the 'Malayan Tigers' squad. Recently, Endrick has shown stable performances with the Ho Chi Minh City Police club.
