(Football result) - Bruno Fernandes’ last-minute penalty strike enabled Man Utd to edge past Burnley in the third round of the Premier League.
The match between Man Utd and Burnley was intense from the very start. In the 5th minute, Matheus Cunha had a dangerous shot, but Burnley’s goalkeeper Martin Dubravka made an excellent save. Afterwards, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount tried their luck from set pieces but couldn’t make a difference.
At the 17th minute, it seemed Man Utd would get a penalty after referee Samuel Barrott pointed to the spot following a shirt pull by Kyle Walker. However, after consulting VAR, the decision was overturned, leaving the “Red Devils” players visibly disappointed.
The turning point came in the 27th minute when the home team unexpectedly took the lead as Josh Cullen accidentally scored an own goal after the ball hit the crossbar and then his body, leaving goalkeeper Martin Dubravka unable to react in time.

Breaking the deadlock, the home side kept pressing with several dangerous attacks. Casemiro and Leny Yoro had chances from aerial balls, but their headers missed the target. Mason Mount even hit the crossbar with a header in the 40th minute, much to the regret of the fans.
In the second half, the intensity rose as Burnley suddenly launched some counterattacks.
Lyle Foster troubled Man Utd’s defense repeatedly; he was flagged offside in the 48th minute but managed to equalize in the 56th minute with a precise low shot into the corner of the goal.
However, Burnley’s joy was short-lived as just one minute later, Bryan Mbeumo took advantage of Diogo Dalot’s assist to put the “Red Devils” ahead 2-1.

Nevertheless, the visitors did not give up. After Lyle Foster’s goal was disallowed by VAR for offside, Scott Parker’s team continued to press and in the 66th minute, Jaidon Anthony quickly scored a rebound to level the score after Bayindir blocked Loum Tchaouna’s volley.
In the following minutes, the red-shirted players pushed forward seeking the winning goal. Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes tried long shots but lacked accuracy, while Amad Diallo, Joshua Zirkzee, and Benjamin Sesko created several dangerous chances, though none converted.
Just when it seemed the match would end in a draw, a foul on Amad Diallo inside Burnley’s penalty area awarded Man Utd a penalty in the final stoppage time.
From the penalty spot, Bruno Fernandes calmly finished to secure a 3-2 victory for Man Utd.
