Manchester United’s loaned goalkeeper makes a spectacular save; will Ruben Amorim take notice?

With Altay Bayındır and Andre Onana showing inconsistent form, Manchester United is urgently seeking a solution for the starting goalkeeper spot — and the answer might already be found within their own squad.

Manchester United’s loaned goalkeeper makes a remarkable save

Manchester United is facing a goalkeeper dilemma as both Altay Bayındır and Andre Onana have not lived up to expectations this season. Bayındır, who was the second-choice keeper last season, was promoted by Amorim to first-choice but has repeatedly made mistakes. In the season opener, Bayındır was responsible for the decisive goal conceded to Arsenal. Last weekend at Craven Cottage, his performance was unstable, and in the latest match against Burnley at Old Trafford, he failed to command his area when Burnley equalized.

Meanwhile, Andre Onana, who seems to be out of Amorim’s plans, had a poor showing in the disastrous defeat at Grimsby on Wednesday. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper conceded a close-range goal early on, clumsily handled a cross that led to the second goal, and made only one save during the penalty shootout.

The difficulties faced by this goalkeeper duo have forced Manchester United’s management to urgently look for a replacement before the transfer window closes on Monday. However, it seems the solution is already present in their squad.

Radek Vitek, the 22-year-old goalkeeper currently on loan at Bristol City from Manchester United.

In the match against Hull City at Ashton Gate, Radek Vitek, the 22-year-old goalkeeper loaned to Bristol City (Championship), made a stunning save that secured all three points for Bristol City. The moment came when Hull City’s right-back Cody Drameh took a corner from the right side, delivering the ball to new signing Oli McBurnie’s head. McBurnie’s header appeared destined to score, but just centimeters from the goal line, Vitek leapt and extended his right arm to pull off a spectacular one-handed save, leaving McBurnie to clutch his head in frustration. The commentator exclaimed, “That ball looked like it was in! Manchester United really needs a goalkeeper like him right now.”

Vitek’s spectacular save.

Earlier, Vitek also impressed when trusted in a pre-season friendly against Rosenborg, blocking several dangerous attempts and earning fans’ praise as the “reborn Buffon” due to his excellent form.

Radek Vitek joined Manchester United from Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Republic in 2020 as a youth player. However, he has not yet broken into the first team under managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag, or Ruben Amorim. Vitek has had loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Blau-Weiß Linz, and most recently Bristol City, where he moved this summer.

Given the current goalkeeper crisis, Radek Vitek’s performances at Bristol City might serve as a reminder that the club already has a highly talented young player in their ranks. Will Ruben Amorim notice Vitek and offer him a chance at Old Trafford?
