Ahead of the crucial clash with Arsenal, forward Cody Gakpo officially signed a long-term contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at Anfield after more than two and a half years with the Merseyside club.
The signing ceremony took place at the AXA Training Centre last Saturday. Notably, according to reliable sources, Gakpo’s new contract with Liverpool will run until 2028.
Speaking on Liverpoolfc.com, the Dutch star expressed his happiness: “It feels amazing to extend my contract with this wonderful club. I’m very grateful and hope to create many more memorable moments for the team and fans. My family is happy in Liverpool, and so am I. I love the atmosphere here, the team spirit, and I enjoy every moment of giving my all.”
Joining Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven during the January 2023 transfer window, Gakpo quickly established himself in The Kop’s lineup.
To date, Cody Gakpo has made 131 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 42 goals and providing 16 assists. During this time, he helped the team win the 2024/25 Premier League title and the English League Cup.
At the international level, Gakpo has also made his mark with 40 caps for the Netherlands, becoming one of the key players of the “Orange Fury.”
In the 2025/26 season, the 26-year-old striker continues to prove his importance. After three rounds, he scored one goal in the win against Bournemouth and provided two assists in the victory over Newcastle United.
Gakpo is determined to help Liverpool reach new heights:
“My goal and that of the whole team is to win more titles. We have a very strong squad, and after last season’s Premier League victory, we will do everything to defend it. Additionally, Liverpool is also aiming to win the Champions League and other cup competitions. Personally, I want to improve every season.”
With his new contract, Cody Gakpo will continue to be a key figure in manager Arne Slot’s long-term plans, bringing stability to The Kop’s attack as they aim to defend their Premier League crown and advance far in the Champions League.
