Manager Mikel Arteta is likely to introduce an entirely new attacking front consisting of Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, and Viktor Gyokeres for the tough trip to Anfield this Sunday.
During the summer transfer window, Arsenal invested heavily to bring in quality players to boost their offensive strength. However, the trio of Eze, Gyokeres, and Madueke have yet to play together. In fact, Eze only joined the Emirates last weekend. Still, Arteta might give all three a starting chance at Anfield, in what is considered a high-stakes test for the Gunners.
According to Arsenal’s official confirmation, Bukayo Saka (hamstring injury) and Kai Havertz (knee injury) will definitely miss out. Leandro Trossard is also unlikely to recover in time, while Gabriel Jesus remains unavailable. Given this situation, Eze is expected to take the left wing spot, with Gabriel Martinelli on the bench as in the victory over Leeds. On the right flank, Madueke will replace Saka, and Gyokeres will continue as the central striker.
When asked about the new trio's combination, Coach Arteta expressed full confidence: “Yes, I completely trust them. We don’t have Gabriel Jesus, nor Kai Havertz, nor Bukayo Saka, and we might even lose Trossard. That’s the reality. We have to find new solutions, possibly something never tried before, and I believe it will be effective.”
Arsenal is expected to face a huge challenge at Anfield, where they have not won a Premier League match since 2012, when Arteta was still a player. Nevertheless, the Gunners’ recent away form against top teams is encouraging, notably their victory at the Bernabeu last season.
The Spanish coach affirmed that the current Arsenal squad has matured enough to break the Anfield curse: “I feel we are stronger and more mature now. The whole team has gone through many challenges, and that was necessary preparation. I believe Arsenal can go to Anfield and achieve the desired result. Liverpool are the champions and deserve that title. But our goal is to become a similarly resilient team.”
Despite a depleted squad but with promising new signings, Arsenal stands a chance to surprise Liverpool. This encounter is not only a test of strength but could also shape the Gunners’ ambition to conquer the Premier League crown this season.
In the 3rd round of the 2025/26 Premier League, Arsenal will visit Liverpool at Anfield at 22:30 on August 31 (Vietnam time).
